There is a trend toward diversification and increasingly large-scale operations in the Chinese forestry industry above all in the non-public sector. During the first six months of 2006, an afforestation area of 2.709 million hectares was completed, accounting for 54.46% of the annual plan. During the same time, 21.8869 million cubic meters of timber was produced in China, an increase of 1.82% over the same period in 2005. The total forestry production value reached RMB 381.408 billion, up 33.28% over the previous year. It is estimated that the national forest output value will amount to RMB 1.2 trillion in 2010. The forestry infrastucture will be better developed, and more competitive, characterized by large-scale and efficient operators, more variety, better layout, and higher quality.
